Soften your home’s water
Water Softeners
A properly sized water softener reduces the scale, spotting, and soap waste that come with El Paso’s naturally hard water — installed, maintained, and backed by a local team.
Residential
Softening Built Around Your Household
El Paso’s municipal water is naturally hard, which means dissolved calcium and magnesium build up as scale on fixtures, water heaters, and appliances, and interfere with soap and detergent. A water softener uses ion-exchange resin to trade those hardness minerals for sodium or potassium, delivering softer water throughout the home.
El Paso Water Tek installs VESTA residential water softeners, sized to your household’s water test results, daily water usage, number of occupants, and plumbing — not a generic one-size package. We also service and maintain softeners we didn’t originally install, including salt delivery, resin replacement, and control valve repair.
A softener is often paired with point-of-use reverse osmosis for drinking water, or whole-home filtration when chlorine, sediment, or taste and odor are also a concern.
Why it matters
A Practical, Serviceable Approach
Sized to Your Water
Grain capacity and regeneration settings are based on a water test and your household’s actual usage, not a flat package size.
Mid-Vortech Tank Technology
VESTA systems use dual-media Mid-Vortech tanks that protect resin from chlorine and chloramine before it reaches the softening bed — see how it works below.
Ongoing Support
Salt delivery, resin replacement, and control valve service are available from the same local team that installed your system.
Inside your softener tank
Vesta Mid-Vortech® Tanks: Built to Last
Every VESTA residential softener El Paso Water Tek installs uses Mid-Vortech® distributor-plate technology from Nelsen Corporation, rather than a basic single-riser tank. Two separate media chambers share one vessel: activated carbon on top, softening resin below, divided by a distributor plate spanning the full width of the tank.
That full-width plate means flow spreads evenly across both media beds during service and backwash, with no gravel underbed to maintain or migrate over time.
How water moves through the system
Five stages. One coordinated treatment path.
- Water enters
Hard water enters through the control valve at the top of the tank.
- Carbon chamber
Water first passes through activated carbon, which removes chlorine, chloramine, and odor.
- Mid-Vortech® plate
A distributor plate in the middle of the tank spreads the flow evenly across the full width before it reaches the resin.
- Resin chamber
Water flows evenly through the softening resin below — no gravel underbed needed.
- Softened water out
Treated water rises through the center riser tube and exits through the control valve.
Chlorine and chloramine are filtered out by the carbon chamber before reaching the resin, protecting it from the chemical breakdown that shortens working life.
Even flow distribution helps keep pressure drop lower as the tank ages, instead of climbing year over year.
Backwash uses up to 30% less water than a basic tank design, while still resettling the resin bed evenly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about water softeners? Start here, then contact our team for advice specific to your water and equipment.
How much does a water softener cost in El Paso?
Cost depends on household size, water hardness, grain capacity, and installation complexity. As a VESTA authorized dealer, we price each system individually rather than publishing flat rates — contact us for a quote based on a water test of your home.
What size water softener do I need?
Sizing depends on your water’s hardness level, the number of people in your household, and daily water usage. A water test is the best starting point.
How often does a water softener need salt?
Salt delivery frequency depends on household usage and softener capacity. El Paso Water Tek offers scheduled salt delivery so you don’t have to track it yourself.
Can you service a softener you didn’t install?
In most cases, yes. We service and repair common residential softeners regardless of the original installer, including resin replacement and control valve diagnostics.
Does a water softener make water safe to drink?
Softening addresses hardness, not drinking-water quality. Many households pair a softener with point-of-use reverse osmosis for drinking water.
